t-5 conversion
okay guys, so as some of you may know, I've been speculating putting a manual transmition into my 65 coupe. right now its got a c4 with a shift kit, which is fun and all, but there is nothin better to me than a manual tranny in a mustang. I've found a few t-5 (more rear end gear choice from what ive heard because of the 5 speeds, and then easier for highway driving) what all would be required for the swap. clutch, flywheel, yadda yadda yadda, i need to know so ican calculate value and start searching for parts in a serious manner, i now have the money available and am more serious than i have been before. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/T-5-m...QQcmdZViewItem here is a tranny i found online. what would have to go with somethin like that to make it work with my 289? thanks guys!
It's not that hard at all...you don't need to swap much. What are you going to do with the shift kit? I may want it.
Here's a link I have saved that I thought was pretty good.

check out mustang steves page www.mustangsteve.com i believe he has a late model type pedal swap available ull need the pedals, clutch linkage(either cable or vintage setup)a flywheel, pilot bearing, shifter(to protect the t5 from over shifting(leading cause of t5 failure) and the d/s shortened about 1"
That's the wrong transmission for what you need. You don't want a V-6 unit. You want a V-8 unit out of a 89-92 series.
Use this to match the trans to your horsepower requirement.

Given, that you were to start with that...you'd need:
- modified drive shaft
- T-5 output yoke
- Adapter trans lower bracket
- Clutch mechanism (hydraulic or cable)
- Bellhousing
- Clutch, Pressure plate, throwout bearing, clutch arm
- Clutch pedal

the v6 tranny is the same as the pre 1986v8 trannys the leading cause of t5 failure is overextending the shift rails and i dont think hes gonna hook up really hard so it should be fine esp if he picks it up for 162$ starting bid heck i might bid on it[8D] i need one for the 65 instead of the toploader
Im doing a t-5 swap and the only problem im having is the clutch pedal. i dotn have a stock one and im looking on ebay for one. Im thinking of going hydraulic, Anyone know of a slave cyl that will work on t-5? -Jon
