Does anyone have an internal spring compressor that they would be interested in selling? I bought a 2 piece set what i was able to remove the old springs, but I dont think I would be able to install my new ones with them. Thanks alot guys, no where around here sells the internal style...

I "borrowed" a spring compressor from NAPA to install the springs on mt sons 66, but it kind of freaked me out because it didn't really hold the spring very well. Also, the "spring and compressor assembly"really did not fit into the area it needed to for effective and safe installation.

I ended up using my engine hoist and chain. I threaded both ends of the chain down through the spring tower and attached both ends of the chain to oppisite sides of a lower coil, and then attached the center of the chain to the engine hoist, right above the spring tower. It worked well and the spring could not "get away".

Probably not an "approved" way to do it but it worked for me, and I felt safe.

with my corvette i used this way to install a new coil: a long pin with thread through upper control arm..coil... and lower control arm.. on top and bottom a plate over it and put nuts on it.. and then tighten it all together till it fits on the wheel setup and bolt it on.. take off that pin again and insert the shock from the bottom upwards.... cheep and easy solution

Well, OK, but not what I would do. Just take your cheap butt down to a real parts place andbuy an internal spring compressor. That's cheaper than the ride to the hosital in the emergency van.

I bought an internal spring compressor from national parts depot part # 988-1. It was like 35 bucks and was wells worth the money.

I boughtan internal spring tool at Harbor Frieght for like $12.00 and it worked great replacing the springs on my '88. Be careful with loaded springs, they can hurt or kill you. Also, using the right tool can make your life easier.

I'm with you. I wouldn't trust a harbor freight tool with my life or limb. Spend a little bit more and get something not harbor freight.
