Default Battery Relocation

I am relocating the battery in my 66 mustang to the trunk but i'm not sure whether i should ground the battery to a cleaned spot on the frame or all the way up to the block again. anyone have suggestions?

go all the way back up....the cars with uni-bodys aren't the greatest for carring current....its cheap to run the cable back to the engine so definitely do it.

There's no problem grounding at the back of the car. You aren't running any type of computer where potential differences are a concern. As for size of wire what are you running for power consumption?4 gauge will handle 100 AMPs at 10' and 2 for 10'-14'.

I agree with LCC. I would try to find a Marine rated wire. Something like "Cross linked polyethylene" insulated. Some of the cheeper insulators are just a problem waiting to happen. Of course you could wrap your hot wire in loom that would help protect the copper and prevent a short. Its a goodand easy modto do.

The welding cable is pretty good, it flexes better. I used this years ago, I had a car with 2 batteries in the trunk.

The marine cable is a little better, plus it is colour coded.

I am doing a battery relocation too, so keep us updated with pics

See, did find a place where I can learn more. I am going to do the same battery mod, as I have a `77 jaguar XJ-S (350/T350 conversion) that has the battery in the trunk. I like the idea of being able to put a shut off switch locked under the trunk deck. With a 12 gauge running along to a relay under the dash to keep the radio stations tuned in, a good heavy duty keyless relay set up to shut off the battery will at least keep the average thief from running with my stang.

[ul][*]So, if I am gathering this right, 1 gauge welder's wire, one positive, one negative running to the engine bay where it would be customarily connected?[*]And suggestions as to the side of the car, presumably the passenger (right) side?[*]Does anyone have a diagram of a wiring schematic for a duel battery set up?[/ul]
