Default horse power

Hey guys,
my 65 289 stang has headers, dual exhaust, airgap intake, 650 cfm carb and a shift kit (new tires too [8D]) what would you estimate my HP/TQ numbers to be? and 1/4 mile times? what if i had 3.55 rear end gears? just lookin for some rough estimates. thanks guys! (ive tried all those hp/tq calculatiors however they all require your 1/4 mile time and i havent tested it yet)

Probably 225-250 at the flywheel. Maybe the mid 15's in the quarter.

You don't list cam specs, heads, type of header, exhaust specs....personally I think the air gap is overkill for a street engine unless you're the kind who builds an 8000 rpm engine to drive back and forth to work. Unless you have some KILLER head/cam combo your torque will most probably be within 90% and 110% of your cid...this would be around 260 on the low end and 318 on the high end. How much hp will be determined by the rpm at which you make that torque. hp=rpm x torque/5252.
If you are running stock 289 heads the most cam lift your can make use of is around .470....anything more than that and you will only hurt your low end and not be able to make it up on the upper end. Matched components always beats mix-and-match. That's why the "Cobra-Kits" of the 1960's ran so well.
If your cam, heads, intake and carb are all matched correctly you can take what the cam manufacturer says about torque/hp peaks to heart.
Good luck.

I didn't see mention of a limited slip or locker so he may be spinning the 'peg-leg' instead of wheel hop.

haha, yes to all of the above! its kinda embarassing when im shreddin some tire and the right one spins and i go back and there is one INTENSE pile o rubber, i think it needs a brudda. maybe the locker rear before the 408![8D]

+1 on the locker

mine has a limited slip diff which i think is what you would call a posi???
knowing what I know now, i would have bypassed all that and gone straight to a Detroit Tru Trac (soft locker). It costs less than the rebuild of the posi and does a way better job of frying x2 wheelsand way more consistent to drive sideways!

I am getting a 408 built for my GT Falcon and would like one for the stang too. I thought there would be issues in fitting a 351w to a 66 b/c of the higher deck?

yeah, and i think there are issues width wise as well (its too wide for you retards out there[8D]) the route i will most likely take would be a 302 stroked to a 347.
