69 mach 1 engine
Just wanted to ask some of you mustang nuts about the engines that came stock in the 69 mach 1's. Mainly about the 351. Did the windsor or cleavland or both come in that year model?
only the windsor was available in 69 the 2v version had 250 hp i believe and the 4v had 290, but the 4v 351 windsor is a beast when it comes to tourque thats what my 69 used to have in her. cleveland was in production 70-74 but now a days you see em transplanted into 69's alot too.
I heard that there were a few that had the cleavland put in them for "testing" sake. Is this true? I am looking at getting one but the guy told me it had a cleavland in it stock. I knew that only the windsor was put in them but is it true that the cleavland was tested in a few? Could I tell from the VIN?
No the VIN wont tell you. There were no 351C engines in 69 model year production cars. Have him show you the casting date stamp on the block and the partial VIN number on the block if he is so sure it is the original engine; I bet its not. The H-code 351w-2v was the base engine for the 69 Mach 1. Also available was the M-code 4v windsor, the S-code 390 and the Q & R code 428's.
Just to toss this in to the conversation. I have a 1970 Mach1 that has the original 351 Windsor still installed. The car was built in mid Oct 1969. Ford eventually made the base power plant the 351 Cleveland. No Clevelands arrived in 1969. I've won alot of bets with that motor. LOL
I've heard that too but I've never seen a documented case of a Cleveland in a 69. He may think it's a Cleveland when it's really a Windsor. Here are the differences between the C and W: http://www.fordcobraengines.com/351c%20Differences.htm
