most likely a hydraulic flat tappet, unless someone changed that to a roller block, the the roller cam would work

I doubt it. The car/motor was stock when i bought the car.
does anyone have any advice when buying a cam? i currently have performer intake, holley carb, msd ignition, and flomasters!
..im looking for:
- little choppy idle (not TOO MUCH!!)
- low-mid range power
- will be a daily driver
...feel free to shoot as much knowledge and options you guys want!!

I know I sound like a broken record (are you guys old enough to remember those things?) but call Crane and order a Fireball-1 cam. It will work with a 2 or 4 barrel carb. With or without headers. The best IMHO overall streetable cam you can buy for a 289.

crane makes a good bump stick too. Any of their energizer series cams are great for performance/DD applications. I'm running their H-284-H10 cam.

crane cams and comp cams make some good steel roller tip rockers it'll be a 1.6 ratio, id say .490 - .515 lift with .260-.280 duration would be the way to go for a hot streetable cam...
