advance the timing slightly will improve the mileage, running a hotter thermostat will also make sure the tires are properly inflated

I really don't know about the I200's, but back then gas mileage was not a big concern. If you are getting 20 on the average, then I would suspect that is all you are going to get. The V8 guys get a lot less than that.

20 mpg on the average is what I use to get with my I-6 with a 3-speed auto.

I would have replaced the piston rings while you had it all apart, they gotta be bad by now. Not sure how that would effect mpg if any, but it would be good...

did a compression check before and back 3 cylinders were at 190 and front 3 were at 182 ( avg)...figured that rings were good..going to check compression next week,,,( time thing),,,seals and as it turned out head gasket was hosed when we pulled the head,,,thing that gets me is when I was driving around last year about this time I was doing better on the mpg ,,,but the timing idea makes sense cause I was messing around like mad with the timing and air/screw mix thing last year and did better...thanks for the help/info....always looking for help/ info ...you guys are grrrrrreat

if you swap to a small 2brl carb with an adapter it will allow more air in so it will help performance some and fuel economy also if you free up the exhaust you will gain some mpg

for more help check out www.fordsix.com there are a bunch of guys there that can help you gain mpg
