edelbrock top end kit probably would be quite reliable and make 400hp.

im making a solid 425 with my 393, its got 10:1 compression, a 750cfm 4bbl, short tube headers, a performer rpm intake, with roush 500 heads, and a 2.5" true duel exhaust. Its also making 450ft lbs. The long block cost me 3k then add in the manifold, carb and whole exhaust. Ill say for 4-5k you can get a nice little engine. I got the long blcok through autozone, they get them through recon.

The biggest gain of all these components are the aftermarket heads and cam. Most guys run around with a 4V carb and dual mufflers and wonder why they aren't beating the ricers.

I would go with a 418 stroker, but I would stay far away from anything made by recon assembly line engines. We custom build each of our motors and every one is broke in and run on the dyno. Each engine is shipped with the build sheets, dyno sheet and video. how does 480hp and 510 ftlb of torque sound.
