Default 64.5 Power Steering

I have been having problems with my power steering. The hose that runs from the pump to the control valve is rubbing against the lower control arm, and all of the fluid is leaking out. Would I be able to prevent this by replacing this rubber hose with a nice steel hose? Is it a hard job to replace this hose?

Anyone that knows anything about this - Please Help!

Its rubber probably because it has to be able to move. So if you put a hard steel line in there itll more than likely fail in a short period of time.
But what you can do is go to your local parts store get a replacement hose. Then get the hard plastic wire loom stuff. Then simply cover the new PS line with the wire loom stuff and zip tie it on there. Thatll prevent or at least slow down how quickly it gets rubbed through. Not to mention when rubber hoses/lines get saturated with oil or any other type of automotive fluid they start to deteriorate rather rapidly.

Don't you have the hoses secured to the frame rail just below the left motor mount?

Here is what they look like together (this bracket for 67/69 big block)

I don't believe I have one of those brackets. I have the Shelby Drop, which I think is the cause of this problem.

So do I, along with the Global West suspension (i.e. the car sits pretty low) and I have no problems. Get the bracket, or at the very least, ziptie the hoses up against that spot where the bracket is supposed to be. Make sure to turn the wheels lock-to-lock to ensure that you don't bind up the hose.

Mr Main,

Follow the advice of Mr. Hand there and get the bracket. I have a 64 1/2 w/pw steering and TRI-Ys, so I know about the dropping the power cyl pump rod. Simply stated, "just do it".
As always, don't forget those jackstands and Good Luck
