Default ride height confusion

everyone talks about 620's and reverse eye and all these other options to lower their stang.

what I want to know is what was the standard ride height for each model and where is it measured from?

if you are replacing stock 40 year old suspension its probably sagged some and not so perky and upright as it once was...bit like 40 year old women really. Is that one of the reasons cars are "she"?

I'm wondering how often someone buys the global west or whatever kit for 1" lower and ends up raising the car back up????

The standard ride height for 65's is 26" measured from the ground to the center of the wheel well both front and back. Now, this will vary depending on what tires and wheels you are running, but it should be in that neighborhood. Saggy butts are very common, and new springs have to be put on to correct that.

you need to open that attach to see my masterful artwork with MS Paint!

So Glen, what should be the standard height for my 66 f/b?

How come so many mustangs (even restored) sit so bum low? They looked like that even in those old advert mpegs someone posted a while back.

Yeah, that's the exact spot to measure to. Your 66 should be the same. These long nosed mustangs just look like they have saggy britches, but that is due to the design and not the actual measurement. Take a look at this pic of Ol'Yeller and you will think the rear is lower than the front. It's not, and because the rear quarter panel top seems to taper off to the rear. It's an illusion. Now, look at other Mustangs (restomods) that have the lip added on the trunk and they seem to be more level. Granted, they have usually also lowered their rear with reverse eye springs, but the illusion thing is still very real.

Yep. That is the stock height for the 65-66's. If your butt is lower, then you either have not replaced the rear springs with standard eye springs, or you have either mid or reverse eye springs. Or......you have old springs still on there that need to be replaced. You notice there is still a bit of room on top of the rear tire to put on taller tires, but because of the backspacing delima, that is limited. The front is limited too with the front fenders.

how would you raise the rear of a car without using the shackles? The PO put on some lifter shackles and I'm not into that, but I am into the "butt in the air" look for the 69's and want to put on some taller tires. So what can I do to lift up the rear without the shackles?
