choke plate stuck in open position
my choke plate is stuck in the open position, it won't close back. i was messing around with the thermostatic spring housing yesterday, i might have screwed something up? i've got a 289-2v autolite, any ideas what to do?
I know it stays open until you pull the throttle even just a little. try to pull the throttle and see if this shuts it.
thats my carb at least, its an edelbrock

You are binding somewhere. Usually the butterfly binds where it hinges, but since you said you took the spring assembly apart, my thinking is that you are binding in the black circle somehow. Use your mind and your ingenuity to find the binding point.
You went past one ofthe stops while you were 'fooling' around with it. Pull the choke housing off and 'fool' around some more. When you get done, you'll be an expert in 'choke'.

hmmm quick question to you since we are on the choke subject
Where does your + connection wire go to ? Could you make a quick description where it hooks up (not on choke but onthe other side of the wire)?

A stock setup has cool air going down a tube from the air cleanerto the exhaust manifold where it is heated and passed up to the choke housing in an insulated tube where it heats the bi-metalic coil spring and opens up the choke - slowly. There are several 'stops' that need to be tripped to get the idle down to normal. A voltage type does the same thing, heating a bi-metalic coil spring.

Yeah, it's either manual, thermal or electric choke. This query is for a thermal choke which gets the energy to open the butterfly from heat from the exhaust manifold. 3 systems, and 3 ways to kill a cat.
