Carb rebuild book/valve cover gaskets
Final my parts cleared customs and are at my house!!!! only took 8 days to clear!! My carb rebuild kit came my carb is leaking out the fuel vent or accelerator pump. My question is what is a good book for carb rebuilds as this will be my first attempt? although i have been playing with a junk 2150 i got of ebay. AlsoI got valve covers (like timelocked's but polished aluminum and black writting) but they don't have a gasket retainer lip so will the normal cork/rubber gasket be enough or would u recomend something else as well. Cheers for the help
the best gaskets are the rubber ones with the metal inserts in each bolt hole. you should be able to install those with no sealer and no leaks if your using aluminum covers with a nice thick solid (flat) base
Paddy, you don't need a book to rebuild a carb. We have that information in the FAQ under the engine section. The article is comprehensive, and rebuilding a carb is no big deal anyway,

Here is what I did before the neoprene gaskets...put a thin coat of clear silicone on the cork gasket and allow it to set overnight. Then seat it to the valve cover with a thin bead of the same silicone and put the covers on the head with all the screws turned in just barely finger tight. This will seat the gasket to the cover and it won't stick to the head but will seal oil in. Been doing this for 35 years!!
Oddly enough, another good glue to use is rubber cement. Make sure the metal is clean, brush on the rubber cement on the metal and on the gasket and allow it to dry for 10-15 minutes, then stick them together. Works like a charm.
