New saying hi /w pics
Hello I'm new here so flame on. I purchased a 64.5 Mustang a few months ago and I will be building a Restomod out of it. Here is some info on the car.
Warranty Number: 5F07D144625
Year: 5 1965(64 1/2)
Plant: F Dearborn, MI
Body: 07 2 door Hardtop
Engine: D 289 4v V8
Unit: 144625
Vehicle Data
Body: 65A 2 Door Hardtop, Standard Interior
Color: H Caspian Blue Metallic
Trim: 82 Blue Crinkle Vinyl, Standard Interior
Date: 23E May 23, 1964
D.S.O.: 36 Louisville
Axle: 1 3.00:1, Conventional
Trans: 5 4-Speed Manual
As you can tell its not in show condition. Picked her up in primer, 302 V8, C-4. The body is in great shape, no rust (looks like its been here in AZ for most of its life), good interior and it runs and drives great.

I want to do this car right which means stripping it all and starting from scratch. I will be posting updates when I get to works on this. So I hope this might also help some of you doing the same thing. So far I have been disassembling the body parts and checking for any metal work that I might need to do. Good thing is this car is in great shape and all I have found is small amounts of surface rust. wOOt! wOOt!

Check it out original paint, looks nice for being 42 years old.

Well thats it for now. I'll keep everyone updated.
Thanks!!

Is that the original 289 D code engine? If so, you may want to store it and get nothing less than a 289A code or a 302 stroked to 347. That D code engine is a low compression dawg. 8:3.1 I believe. But, it is potencially worth some bucks because of its rare value. Looks like you found a real basically rust free car. Keep us posted as you make progress.

did you say engine code D? i thought that was an i6? i thought A codes were 289 4v. please, correct me if im wrong

You are wrong Emperor. Before August 17th of 1964, the Mustangs didn't use the C or A code 289's. They offered the 289 D code low compression V8 with a 4V carb, and the 170 I6 and the 260 V8 and K code after July 15th. After August 17th, the engines changed to the C,A and K code V8's plus the I200 6 banger.
