What would be the best way to get more power out of my brakes? I have manual brakes, discs in the front and drums in the back. What do you recommend I do for about $250-$300? Thanks.

Obviously, make sure all is serviced. Fresh pads, hardware, shoes, w'c's etc.... Braided brake hose is said to help have a harder pedal. Less flex than rubber hose alone, better transfer of hydraulic pressure to calipers and wc's. You could also get a power brake conversion for about that money, but that won't neccessarily make your brakes better, just easier to apply.

To get more braking power, you need bigger rotors, calipers etc. Prob. gtting into more money there. By the way, if you are thinking about discs in the rear, I just read an article in one of the mustang mags that says they are not really better than drums in back and drums are better than discs in the rear for the parking brake for cars with hand applied parking brake. Not my experience, just something I read.
Good luck.

I heard that those steel braided brake lines worked better, as for the new calipers and rotors, what brand would you recommend? I think I will get new brake lines though, thanks!

+1 on everything Coda said and I'd also say that if your budget is limited, you can make anoticableimprovement just by changing the front rotors to slotted and buying some better pads...not a full race spec pad, just a street pad up from standard specs. Go speak to a brake specialist not a mustang parts house! I just upgraded the 2 family daily drivers this way and couldnt believe the improvement. Your parts are generally 20% cheaper than here in US$, but to give you an idea, the rotors were $80 each and the pads $90 for both sides. Total $250Aus...I'm guessing around $200US

good luck

Bigger rotors and better calipersare the ultimate, but then you need bigger wheels too! Adds up to serious bucks pretty quick.

Hi. I have the same set up on a 66 coupe, disc up front, drums on the rear. I have replaced everyting, pads, rotors, shoes, cylinders, hoses etc. The one thing I have not replaced is the master cylinder. Mine is a single bowl, and have heard that for saftey I need a dual bowl. Do I also need a proportioning valve and residual valves? Also, will a 67 dual m.c. fit on a 66? Thanks

You can buy 66 dual reservoir masters , so dont need to worry about the 67 (i think they had odd sized fittings anyway) and I'd never use 2nd hand brake parts.
As far as I am aware, the proportioning valve is built in to the m/c.
I just cant remember what you have to do as far as the brake lines are concerned...are there 2 seperate lines coming out of the single m/c? If yes, no trouble.

OK. Checked CJ Pony and Mustangs Unlimited for dual master cylinders. CJ has one for 90 bucks, and M.U. has one for 99 bucks. M.U. said that the master cylinder would not work with rear drums, while C J didn't mention this. Any ideas? Thanks

The Granada master cylinder will work with disk up front and shoes out back, but will need to add the proportioning valve. We have some write up technical articles in the FAQ up top. Go read those to get most of your answers.
