Windshield trim tricks?
Hi all. I'm having a heck of a time reattaching my front and rear windshield trim after replacing the windshields and gaskets, and I'm looking for some tips and tricks. I've found a buch of information in the FAQ and from previous threads, but nothing is helping. I replaced all of the trim clips with new, but it appears that the new gaskets are keeping the trim from engaging the clips. Any ideas?
bronco, those new clips are probably really snug against the the body of the car. Take a small flat head screwdriver and push it inbetween the clip and the body and pry out just a bit towards the clip (away from the body). You want a little space and/or play with the clip to allow the mouldings to fit in there. Be carefull not to scratch paint.
Another tip is to take a flat edge made up of something thats not too hard. I use a plastic stick, but don't ask me where you can get one. I think a piece of wood would work too, about a1/2 to 3/4inch in width and 8 to 10 inches long. The idea is too lay it over the moulding, then tap on it with a rubber mallet. The stick will take the blunt of the force, but will apply the pressureevenly to the mouldingspreventing damage.
Typicaly, you should be able to get most of the clips to work with the first tip. Use the 2nd for the more difficult/stubborn clips.
Good luck
