Default Is your Mustang missing this...

I just learned about the gas tank blanket cover located underthe trunk mat, which I am told by guys, cuts down on noise for the gas sloshing around the tank. Apparently this was a factory itemwhich you can no longer buy. We're hunting one down in "as new" condition. Do you stil have yours? Does anyone else know about its history and function?

No, as far as I know it was not an option from either the factory or the local dealer. Tell us more about it. Rmodel....You say you can get one as a repop? Give us an addy.

You cannot tell from the picture but the padding is very thick and dense - not your standard foam

My shop also said that there were repros -but made with cheap foam. Is it possilbe the originalalso actedas a fire retardant in the event of a rear end crash?

Does anyone know the real/original name for this item and why not many people know about it?

Why not cut one out of 30 lb felt paper. No one is going to see it and you will save your money and it will do the same thing.[sm=exactly.gif]

or just get a loud exhaust and you will never hear fuel sloshing cause all you can hear is the exhaust

If you are looking for something to take the place of this I would get the underlayment out of a later model Chrysler product.

Chrysler has the best sound deadener/insulation of any of the Big 3. Nice heavy duty with a rubber like consistency. I pulled some out of a late 80's New Yorker and it is great stuff. I wound up putting it in my brothers 77 F100 and it worked wonderfully.
