I gotta' agree. Though i'm no expert and the picture is not the best, it looks like there is some sort of sheet metal extending from the inner fender tot he firewall that shouldn't be there. Then the cap for the master cylinder sticks up through the "whatever-it-is". It could just be an optical illusion due to the angle the picture was shot at and the colors of the various parts involved.

I dont see any sheet metal extension or anything you guys are talking about. It does look sorta high, maybe power brake booster? just a rough estimate.

Sorry, I amend my first post. It looks like there is some sort of sheet metal under the master cylinder. Sorry, but the picture isn't the best IMO, and either way it still looks wrong. I'm talking about the original picture not the second picture of his buddy's engine compartment.

I have compared the pics posted, and I think it is just the picture. Although it looks like something extending from the shock tower to under the MC, it appears it is just an optical illusion. That is actually the curve in the firewall you are seeing.

There is a piece of metal that shouldn't be there. There is nothing surrounding the MC on my 65. Did someone weld in some metal for support or something? Whatever it is, it ain't factory. Here is shot of my 65 MC. Damn, I gotta get the Rust Away and paint out again.
