Default 64.5 Power Steering HELP ME!!!

I've been having a problem with it for a little while. I have a silver resovoir in the front-right of the engine compartment with a pink fluid inside it. I opened this while the car was running, and the pink fluid was rushing all over inside.

1. Is this pink fluid power steering fluid?

2. Should it be moving around when the car is running?

3. Are the hoses going from the pump to the control valve high pressure hoses? or can I just unscrew them and take them off?

PLEASE HELP ME!

thanks

The fluid is red and looks like automatic transmission fluid. My power steering pump (I have an '85 pump in my '65) uses ATF type F. You will see it swirling around in there. Make sure the fluid level is where it should be.

Of of the pump, you have two hoses, one high pressure and one low pressure. It should be obvious which is which. The high pressure is threaded on to the pump and the low pressur is a push on.

Is you power steering not operating properly or were you just looking to learn more about it?

Yep. I'd have to agree. Ford specified Type F auto trans fluid in thier p/s systems for years. It should be swirling when the pump is running. Low and high pressure hoses, however I wouldn't remove them unless the engine is off.

My power steering is not working properly. When I turn the wheel it makes a horrible sound. I was told that one of the pump hoses was rubbing against the lower control arm and this slowly separates from the control valve. Apparently this causes a slow leak, but I do not ever see any fluid?

It looked a little low on fluid, but I am not sure how it would get that low since I filled it up about a month ago. Do you guys reccommend doing anything with the hoses?

Both - When turned slightly and when turned all the way. I think it has something to do with the hoses.

How do I fix this?
