Default 68 w/ AC and oval air clnr - monte carlo bar?

Anyone have one, or knowif a curved MC bar will fit (or won't) on a 68 289 w/ an oval air cleaner and a sanden a/c compressor?

i've heard differing things on this and haven't been able to find a shop w/ one in stock to test fit it. Thanks

I've got a 68, 289, coupe wiht factory AC, but a round air filter, and the Monte Carlo bar fit fine with room to spare. Whether it would fit around an oval air cleaner, I can't say for certain. The AC compressor though has absolutely no interference with the Monte Carlo Bar.

The air compressor on my 65 289 goes below the curved MC bar. I have a stock air cleaner, and that is why I had to go with a curved MC bar, plus the distributor is easier to get into. The sanden is smaller than my old York, so you should have plenty of clearance.

It is my understanding that the curved monte was made specifically to fit the shelby oval air cleaners. So, I don't think you will have a problem.

By the way, I have been shopping for one myself and it seems as though there are only foreign repros out there. However, Scot Drake makes one that I was able to order through CJ pony part even though they don't stock it. Seems like it will be better quality than the repos. Check the SD website for discription.
Good luck

thanks for the pics and suggestion on SD for the bar. I wasn't sure b/c the area between the compressor and the front of the air cleaner isn't very big but hadn't considered that the bar would be above the back of the compressor. I know that the mc bars on MU.com specifically state they won't fit A/C cars, but I also know others have said they had MC bars on their a/c cars...

Anyway good to know , need all the bracing i can get for the vert
