Pertronix Ignitor II install
Started my new electronic ignition install, but got a little stumped. On the old ignition coil, there is a positive and negative terminal (just like the new one). On the old one, the wire going to the negative terminal is coming from the distributor inside, and the wire going to the positive terminal is coming from a large plug on the firewall. It has a little elbow boot type of connector that snaps on.
So on the new install, the pertronix kit comes with the red and black wire, which go on the new ignition coil. So where does that old red one go now?

No no, The new red one from the pertronix needs it's own 12 volt power source. I ran a wire from the iginition swith out there to it. I also ran it to the coil, because it's a 12 volt coil. You still need power to the coil from a switched source.
So I guess that is what that original wire was for. I guess I should keep that one there, and then the red wire from the pertronix kit I'll need to runn off of a 12V power source - so where exactly would I run this out of? I assume not the battery. Also, any pics of this? I don't have my manuals yet
Ok, depending on the coil you get, you may have to remove the current red wire and run a new one to that too. I ran ONE wire from the ignition switch to the coil, and split off to the pertronix. It hasn't given me any problems in a year. You got to go under the dash and look at the wires coming off the ignition switch. You'll see a small normal wire going into a bigger Pink wire. Thats the resister wire that cuts voltage down to 6 volts for the old coils. You must splice into the normal wire!!! You may had to remove some electrical tape from the wires.
Man, there's a FAQ topic on here? Ha, how did I miss that. I am all set now - I think I get it. I've got wiring diagrams, and a ton of websites that answered this. Thanks 6mustang6, I see what you were saying now.
