Default Throttle response

so i have a 67 with a 302 in it. what ive done to it is put in 650cfm 4 barrel holley, power pulleys, got a ligther fan, rebuilt the rear end with posie, aluminum drive shaft, edlebrock torquer. but the thing is my throttle response sucks ***** still and im gettin my *** waxed bad =/. any suggestion on what i could do to improve throttle response a little, maybe new heads?

new heads and/or a dual plane manifold would help a bunch. also a new cam if u still have the stock one would help a ton. the combination of all 3 of those would give you an easy 100hp or so. good luck and let us know the results!

When you say throttle response, do you mean it bogs down on take off, or are you just not getting enough horses out of it?

Is that the stock cam for a 2 bbl 302?
go get a new cam but talk to someone about the 'formula'.What you want from it.A 650 cfm carb is big for a 302.Bigger isnt better unless you are running at 6000 rpm all the time.
Get headers and dual exhaust.
High performance parts mixed together incorrectly will give you a dog engine.Get the right cam to match your compression, valve size, intended rpm range(think about that one carefully, your not at the track every day),weight of car, differential gearing.Dont just ask jo blo over the counter parts guy.Go to an engine shop/machine shop and talk to a Ford guy. There will be a chev and dodge guy there too usually. They can often get parts for you cheaper as well.Spend the time to get this formula together and you will be thankful you did 10 000 miles down the road while youre kicking beaumont butt.

ya..over carberation will bog you down bad off the line....you better plan to launch at 3,000 rpms with that much carb and intake......your bottom end should match your top...is your 302 pushing atleast 300 horses? if not..a650 holley is too much carb.....a single plain mainifold wont help either.....you would be better off getting a edelbrock preformer dual plain manifold.<~~dual plain are made for the street...give ya alot of low end take off...one of the biggest problems is allways over carberation.

perfict set up for a small block ford there heck even a elderbrock 600cfm carb is good up too 400 horses with the right jets.. alot of people just stick too big of a carb for there motors briches lol...if your not pure drag race..i would stay away from single plain manifolds..lol

one thing about manifolds..if there too tall and big..and your motor doesnt have big anuff heads and valves to handle it...the fuel will drop out of the air...with a smaller intake and carb..the fuel stays atomized..and travels fasters...which gives you low end power much quicker

+1 to what everyone else said

your biggest downfall right now is the torquer single plane intake and a 650 on a stock 302. a performer or performer rpm with a 600 will run circles around you.

Well, to start the Torquer is a high rpm single-plane manifold. Never liked them on a street motor. Always preferred cutting the plenum devider down 3/4 in and using a 1in open spacer toextend the rpm range to 7000 without killing the bottom-end.

I agree, that is too much carb and too much intake for a stock motor. don't waist your time buying other parts to make the wrong part work. A different intake card set up would be money better spent.
