stock the 200 is rated at 120HP and 193 Ft/Lbs of torque
i have modified mine pretty well and i think i can stick with a stock 289 easily

The 200, 6 cylinder only approaches a stock 289 if it has some serious mods. I believe it is barely over 100 hp, 100 ft-lbs of torque, stock.

i dont know what you would call serious mods but i have a cam, roller rockers, oversized valves, a header and a holley 2brl carb
and i have a buddy with a similar setup up who put a turbo on his car and it only cost him like $500 and he can whoop up on any stock 289 or 302 like it is nothing

yeeeah. Maybe pride wasn't the good choice of words. Let's put it this way, I'd pay more for a original V8 car, then some I6 car that someone threw a V8 in there. Thats just how I am. I like my cars with their original engines, and i dont like I6's so thats why i take "pride" in owning a original V8.

Checked out a 68 coupe today that is for sale with a 6 cylinder, auto trans. It is the first time that i have driven a classic other than my 289 coupe andI was was surprised at the lack of power. I expected a bit more out of it, but it didnt do much even when on the floor.
just curious, is this the norm for the 200 6cyl stangs? or should itput outanything close to what a stock 289 has??

I highly recomend that the final ratio be raised to at least 4.10, if not 4.56 on all I-6 Mustangs. Like I said above the little 6 loves the revs. I would expect a reduction in fuel mileage, but we did not check for this.
I think that the old gears were 3.02 to 1.
