289 cid 1966 upgrade
ORIGINAL: Soaring
Yeah, it is difficult for a bunch of gearheads to tell you how to build your engine to suit you. We understand horsepower numbers, and the mods it takes to get to a certain number. Your old C code has right around 200 horsepower at the flywheel. A quick way to add 25 or so horsepower is to add the 4 barrel carb. You can add a bunch more horses by adding aftermarket heads such as the AFR heads with a decent single plane intake and a good 4 barrel carb along with a cam. Add some headers, a dual exhaust system with an X pipe and you are talking around 300 horses. For a street machine, most folks would be pleased with that set up.

only trying to find out which carb, intake, cam .......
and to add the first "25" hp. by getting a 4barrel carb.. that already requires for me another intake to fit the 4 barrel

thanks again for al the input

while brainstorming with a friend a new idea popped up.. keep my 289 block original and store it.... buy another shortblock and build it up to my own specs... not such a bad idea since i also have exterior and interior parts to transform my mustang into a shelby..
new questions pop up ofcourse.... what shortblock to get.... a 302 ? andfit all 302 blocks easy in a 66 mustang.. or are there from certain years that wouldn't be recommended to fit in my car ? ( and in which ford models can i find the 302 so i know to look for what donor car

Arthur,
People are doing what you thought as 302 are cheaper and more avialable than 289's. For motors, short block and long block, check www.usa-engines.com based in Hoogezand here is one of there product withNokkenas of 280-290
V-8
302
LB
'65-'80 True roller timing, ARP-rodbolts, balanced, matching perf.cam, HSC-heads (high output heads), propane seats, etc.
god knows the price but may be worth a think.
