Default Ignition / startup??

So i replaced the coil with a new flame thrower to go laong with the petronix and i changed the plugs but the coupe still wants to wine/lag on startups mostly when she is warm, any ideas for a fix??

She starts up good 8/10 times when she is cold but lags when warm. Wishing the classic starts strong all the time, thanks for any help.

i know a lot about ignition, but little about carburation.

I'm nearly convinced that you have a carb problem though.
High float, flooding, ...something along those lines. make sure to post what carb you have

There were a good few threads about this already so check them out

would you be able to advance that far without pinging so that you'd get a bad warm start ?
have to try that :-)

but yes ya. make sure you have your timing right

Kalli, I have an edelbrock 4v carb (not sure of any model#) and an edle torker II manifold???

I had no luck finding the past threads.

Dont have a timing light (or know how to use one...) if you think it may be a timing isue...

I will be heading down south next week and my father-in -law may be able to check the timing.

Please let me know if you have any carb suggestions, or just take it in to the mechanic, thanks.

Do you know what vapor lock is? Is it vapor locking on you, or does the engine turn over freely but just doesn't start when it's warm? Do you have a spacer between the carb and the manifold?

Dont believe its vapor lock, the car starts strong most of the time, if you shut off and turn the ignition again she turns right over, it happens more when she has been running for awhile and then sits for a period where i can just describe itas not completely cooled off but notHOT.

It occasionally does the wine/lag on a cold startup but has always turned over, it has not had an episode were she would not turn over jjust that she wines it out before turning over. Hope i am describing correctly for you, thanks.

also, not with the car at this moment but i dont believe there is a spacer on the manifold.

I had this trouble with my 302 in my truck. I always struggled with it. Timing/carb settings, etc. I finally bought some new starter cables with a little larger cable diameter and then even hot the starter would spin fast.

If you have the room under your hood, get a 1" Phenolic spacer. It will not only reduce the heat to the carb, it will also improve throttle response. Here's an article.
