Default Disc brake pressure control valve

I puchased my mustang a few years ago. This winter I've been tidying thing up a bit.
One thing has been a slight drip from the "Disc Brake pressure control valve". If only it was the slight drip I'd let it go,but it causes my proportioning valve to go off center triggering the brake light to come on. I can pump up the peddle and bleed the brakes, but after a couple days the light comes on again.I gotta' looking and think the valve is on backwards. Shouldn't the valve side marked"IN" be on the master cylinder side? Would this be the reason it's leaking? Also looking in the book it says not to mount a clap over the rubber O-ring area on the valve. Mine doesn't have the O-ring anymore ....was that o-ring to prevent dirt from entering the vent holes in the grooveunder the o-ring?
