Clutch pedal question
With the clutch linkage disconnected, if I push the clutch pedal all the way down, should it come back up by itself? right now I have to pull it back in place so I am wondering if that means I need to change the spring ... Thanks!
It is supposed to be that way. The spring that is under the dash is an assist spring. It helps you hold the pedal down to the floor when everything is hooked up. Sounds to me like your stuff is working properly.
There is another long spring underneath the car that attaches to the clutch mechanism. Make sure that one is on there. Also, to adjust your clutch look on the firewall side underneath your Master Cylinder and you will see where the clutch rod attaches to the Z bar. You can turn that in and out to either get more or less clutch pedal travel. See pic

On my 66, there is no possible adjustment on the clutch rod / Z bar connection point - just a bushing through the Z bar and then a pin - did they stop doing it that after 65? or my set up is simply not the original? cause I though it was
Just looked at my 66 mustang shop manual:
- The equalizer (clutch) rod shown is exactly the set-up that I have on my car
- Did help me locate the clutch pedal stop
- It also mentions pedal free travel specification of 7/8"/1-1/8" - DonA where do the 6-1/2" of travel on the pedal come from?
If someone has the manual for the 65, it be great to confirm that the picture provided by soaring is also consistent with the shop manual of that year
