Default 66 clearance for headers?

I have a 66 that had the inline six and i will put a 69 302 engine. But i dont know what type of headers are good and what fit, the "shorty" ones or Normal long ones. Thanx

Tri-y long tubes. Ceramic coated from CJ Pony parts is $245.

you can do shorties or long tubes...they will both fit. I would go with a nice set of LT hooker comps or some hedman's made for the 302. Be careful with hooker super comps, I believe the primary dia.'s are a bit bigger and the driver side header has a tricky bend in it that makes it a bitch to get in the header bolts, spark plugs, boots....and also I've heard there can be clearance issues with the steering column area.

Unless you're making gobs of power (especially in top end), you won't notice too much of a difference in performance between shorties and LT's, so as a far as a difference goes between those two, its really not much of a difference (I would say LT's may be good for an extra 3-5hp more over shorties...just my opinion).

Shelby could have used ANY design header he wanted. He chose tri-y because they are the BEST header for a SBF that is used on the street. Look at the header design on ANY high-dollar German car...tri-y. Even pulsing and scavenging through the entire rpm range. They work better than any long-tube or shorty header I've ever seen.

i got a set of tri-ys from npd the cheap ones like 125$ fit good had a slight clearence problem withthe 65 push rod but a 66 style will fix that since its adjustable and the pitman arm slightly touched at full lock but nothing major to be concerned with

So if I get a set for my '66 302 & manual steering, I will or will not have clearance issues?

I have long tube heddmen headers ( MoJo mentioned) easy fit with auto or manual tranny. No clearence issues as long as you aren't going for the low rider setup.Plus they won't break the bank.
