Paddy - The float level needs re-adjustment after replacingthe needle. I'm guessing you didn't check the float height after replacing the needle?

You can hold the carb over your head (after you've drained all the gas out, of course) to check the "dry" level. This rough setting should be pretty close so that when you check the "wet" level is should be very little adjustment, if any. I can check what those measurements are when I get home, if you don't have them (or nobody else has them handy to post).

Kalli - Thanks for the advice...I've got my own work to do now! (BTW, I meant to say intake manifold, not exhaust manifold earlier.)

I dry set it according to the specs but got didn't check the wet level to eager to get it going and forgot!!! doh now need to find out what wet level to use as carb has no id tag and shop manual says 0.750 or 0.875 for the 289 2V so willaim for the middle
