1969 Flasher Relay
need help. my left turn signal does not flash. i replaced each bulb and that did not cure the problem.
i understand that there is a relay that could be the problem. is that my next "fix"?
and if so how do i get to it?
1 from taking the dash off OR
2 going throught he bottom of the floor area--i tried this and simply could not reach where i thought i heard the "right" blinker relay 'ticking'
3 going through the 'front' of the dash.
any help is greatly appreciated!!

RE: 1969 Flasher Relay
Yep,, There are two.. One should be in a little bracket bolted to the left side of the radio under the dash, and the other should be behind the radio.. They are two little canisters with three connectors each.. Just pull them both out, switch them and try it again.. If the problem changes,, then chage out the pot..

RE: 1969 Flasher Relay
You mentioned that your left blinker doesn't work... does that mean your right one does? If so, I don't think the flasher is the problem. I've heard that some cars have two flashers, but one flasher handles both blinkers and the other handles hazards. I'm not sure if that is a fact or not, hopefully someone else will chip in their two cents to verify it. If that is the case, maybe the culprit is a bad ground or a faulty blinker switch.
[edit] You can get to the flashers without disassembling anything, check under the dash behind the radio. Also, I tried to find a picture of one, but do you realize how hard it is to find a picture of an AUTOMOBILE flasher on the Internet? NSFW! Be careful what you search for.
[edit edit] Found one. Yours should look like the one in the top right corner.

Good luck!

RE: 1969 Flasher Relay
Hi all,
have no 69 Mustang, but according to the wiring diagram there is 2 flashers
1 for the direction and 1 for the hazard lights. So from this the problem shouldn't be the flasher.
what worries me is that it is front and back and you replaced the bulbs already.
according to the wiring diagrams there is a direction signal and hazard swith connector.
And the only thing any of those have in common is that switch.
So first of all make sure that the sockets of the failing bulbs have ground.
If that's the case find this switch and check with a multimeter or a 12V test light if you get indicator signal there.
(you have to have the connector on the switch and ignition on)
You can poke through the cable with the tip of the tester to get to the cable itself.
Check your right side first to make sure you're measuring is ok.
(white blue against ground and then orange blue against ground). The 12V testing light should flash
then try the other side (white green against ground and orange green against ground)
here's a picture with the switch from the wiring diagram with a few comments:

RE: 1969 Flasher Relay
actually white-blue and green-white have 2 cables each going from this switch
1 to indicator and one to the control lamp in the instrument cluster
Does the control lamp in your in your instrument cluster work when you indicate left ?
And do all 4 flash when you put on the hazard lights ?

RE: 1969 Flasher Relay
great points from all.
my lights do flash with the "emergency" flasher depressed on the steering column. so doesnt that rule out the ground issue AND the bulb issue?
i dont have an answer for why the right side does work, but it does.
the instrument panel shows the left blinker "on", but does not 'blink"---just stays "lite up".
i bought a flasher-2.99 at local parts store, but getting to it is a bear.
will try to print out the diagram.
by the way is there any way i can get a diagram for my back up lights? i put in a manual trans and would love to be able to have my back up lights work. i got a new tko 600 if that helps.
thanks for all your time!!!!

RE: 1969 Flasher Relay
i can imagine what you came up with!!!
thanks for the info. i did get a relay from the local parts store--2.99.
alot of good advice, but i wonder if this will fix my problem. funny/strange thing is that my "emergency" flasher will work, but the turn signal wont....
will report back when i get time to work on this.
hopefully getting the flasher out will 'fix' this.
i had to take the dash out to work on the speedometer/switch out a cable. i wonder if this would have an effect on the turn signal? i messed this up before and lost almost all my gauges--they stopped reading--no oil pressure, no volts, no temp.
wish me luck!!
what a great source of info---thanks for your help!
