Default Thinking about Buying a 67...looking for info

Greetings,
I am considering a purchase of a 67 Mustang, and would like some opinions from those in the know.

The car:
1967
289 4barrel holley...
3 speed automatic
Dual exhaust
5 Lug wheels
Drum Brakes
Power steering
Body has been painted, and needs to be painted again...a very poor paint job.I can only find 1 place that I believe had body filler, on the rear passenger quarter panel, but it is from a dent not rust. I can feel the dent with my hand from inside the trunk. The other area that sounded funny was at the top corners of the windshield, not sure why it sounded so different....it dosnt seem to be a place that would rust, but it does sound like there is filler in those areas.

No other visible dents on the car
Floor pans have no rust
Door sills and trunk are rust free.
Seats are original, carpet is original, carpet could be replaced, seats have no rips, and are in great shape.

It runs....after about 5 min at ideling it starts to smoke blue.
Steering feels good, not sloppy.
Brakes feel good...for drums.

I dont know what else to look for....and maybe for the price I shouldent look to hard.
Is this car worth $3000?

price is reasonable, look for rust around the shock towers to frame and the cowl area. If the floors are not rusty the cowl may be okay unless it is always inside. Is it a coupe, fastback or convertable? I assuem coupe for that price.
any pics?
my 67 initial looked pretty good, some rust. but I found a bunch more!

You are correct, it is a coupe.
I am also assuming that the Holley Carb is not stock....
Everything else looks stock, and the car is very drivable.

As for the shock towers, From standing in front of the car looking in, I didnt see any rust holes, but I would assume you wouldent unless you actually pulled a wheel and crawled into the wheel well?
Is this something I can check fairly easily, without being too intrusive in this ladies carport?

The only real history I have on the car isthat this car currentlyowned by a 72 year old lady, and it has been sitting in her car port for 2 years, before that, it was her daily driver for 16 years previous.
Her brother showed me the car, and after putting a charge on the battery, it started up on the 2nd try.

I am comforable with overhauling the engine, but I am hoping that a compression check will limit the repair to valve seals....(pray with me now)....but who knows.

I would probably want disk breaks in the front also...the drums dont leave me with a warm fuzzy feeling coming to a stop. I assume that that will set me back $1000. But I really have no idea what any mustang parts will cost...until I have to buy them.

I am confident that I could offer her less and still get the car, although it is not being advertised right now, she did try and sell it 2 years ago for $6000, but no takers.

Sounds like a really good price to me on what was probably a well treated car. The Holley is not stock, you're right. There's a possibility that it could be a 289 HiPo since it's a 4v. Is there a "K" in the VIN? If so, take it and run .

Brakes can be done from about $500 for a Grenada swap and w/ some good deals to the good side of $2000 for a set from Stainless Steel Braking Company. Most people here seem touse this company.

The upper corner by the windshield would be kind of an odd place for it to rust I think but the 1/4 panel is common and pretty easy to replace.

you should be able to see/feel around in the engine compartment where the shock towers attach to the frame without taking off the wheels.
2K sounds good to me!

BUY IT. $3000 was a tad high, but 2k for a drivable Mustang is an excellent price. 67 is a great year, you can go in alotta different directions with it, and you can fit bigger motors that are hard to squeeze into a 65/66.

That's an unheard of price for a driveable classic Mustang that is virtually rust free. The blue smoke is oil burning, so you will need to overhaul the engine which is another 900.00 to 1,300 bux.
