Default Disk or Drums

I have a 66 coupe and all wheel drums at the moment (not power). I am going to get a booster for sure, but my question is... Are all wheel power drums enough brake to stop a 302 in a 66 coupe or is it necessary to convert to front disk. I would like to save as much money as possible; I am a college student. On that note, anyone got a brake booster I could take off their hands?

The shoe brakes have been working on my 65 for 42 years.

you'll b fine until/if u start puttin some engine mods on, i got front disc and the nice thing is its easy as hell to change out the pads when u need to, drums are a PITA....and disc make it look better

i have build road race and short track stock cars that have used front manual disc and rear drum setups and unless you plan on doing alot of hard braking even manual drums would be more than enough...

The problem with shoe brakes is that after they get wet, they will tend to pull to one side or the other and not have the stopping power that discs have. Other than that, the shoe brakes are just fine for stopping.

they tend to do the same thing once they are hot too! Good for one real stop then have to let them cool down

Depends on where you drive, really. Around here, we have plenty of 65mph highways with stop lights. That modern car in front of you has better brakes for stopping from that speed. And, is likely to cut you off while using those powerful brakes.

To save some money, forget the power booster. Go to www.mpbrakes.com and dig around. They have decent prices and a good amount of info on switching over.

I went with manual disc brakes on the front and I have noproblem introducing passengers to the dash pad. Just make sure to get the master cylinder bore that helps you the best. I have a 7/8" bore, which is easier to push than a 1" or 1 1/8" bore.

Did you put the 302 in a former i-6? If so I am assuming you're still using the 4 lugs front and rear. If you are, I would recommend getting a Granada kit (Usually is disc) 5 lug.
