Stay stock or hot rod? Chime in!
Sorry, can't resist.... I bought my 66 coupe from the original 140 yr old owner last year, C code, C4. I've made some extremely satisfying mods given the original OEM stuff was 40 yrs old. sorry, but the sudden stop at freeway speed was enough to convince me to get the front disc brakes.Absolutely agree,do what YOU want. Mine still looks original, with the style steel wheels, went to a 4 barrel, andhad the C4 seriously upgraded, C servo, rigid bands, etc, and tossed the green dot, trac-loc rear, and Tri-y with nice exhaust. The car is a joy to drive, and SAFE, emphasis on SAFE! What every you do, original or not, make sure the existing set up is safe and reliable, replace necessary front susp parts, and brakes if necessary.
ENJOY YOUR CAR, NO MATTER HOW YOU SET IT UP..

It all depends on what you like to do with your car. Personally I'd put some killer wheels on it and parade it around like that. If you do remove anything, obviously, keep all the parts. Don't toss anything away...
If you want to do safety upgrades to it then I think that is well worth changing (IE - dual master cylinder, disc brakes in front, new sway bar links, bushings...

i love the classic hot rod look and all and customized nearly every aspect of my 66 but even i have to say leave that one alone.Especially with that history(i.e. original sales receipt and all that)Itd be a shame to see it get butchered.
Iagree with mlitz. As an owner of several originals and a couple of restomods, I break it down like this. Your car is absolutely worthy of mantaining its originality, I mean no mods what so ever, it will mantain a higher overall value, it can be original only once. Any one that alters, changes, upgrades, even safety upgrades that wasn't present when the car left the line, falls into the resto group ("my car is ALL ORIGINAL except the............"). The majority of the cars out there now fall into the category. They are lacking or missing too many partsto feasably or financially be restored to an original condition. You have a unique and rare find and its certainly worthy of being mantained as an original. If you absolutely feel the urge to resto, at most, I would buy a nice set of tires and rims to do the occasional drive. These will give the most overall visualization of therestolook and the easiest to correct.
i am kinda in the same boat. My 65 is stock, and i am torn with it. I have already ordered tri-y's for it, and full duel exhaust. Other stuff i have done is the little stuff, wires, blaster coil, open air cleaner. Guy i work with thinks i am nuts for bolting this stuff on, but i told him, its my car, i am making it what i want it to be. In my opinion, do what you want. You are the one that has to drive it.
