That has been debated on here with no real resolution. I use the redline brand, but instead-0-lead is about the same thing. If you still have the soft valve seats, then it won't hurt to use it, and it might even save your soft seats. Others say that your seats have built up lead from back during the days where lead gas was used. I have a hard time buying that theory, so that's why I use it.

Leaded gas was phased out years ago. There is an lead additive but I don't know if it is still available. The bottom line is that if you don't tow or do any long high speed runs, you should be ok. In one of the car magazines (Road and Track or Car and Driver) there was an article that said if your pre-unleaded gas car had run onlead that you would have enough build-up to last the life of the engine. That bring up the final point - when you get a rebuild on the heads, insist on getting new valve seats and guides. All new seats and guides are made with materials that work with unleaded gas.

You will burn the soft seats, then the heads will have to be rebuilt.

I run my 289 at 80+ MPH for 3 or 4 hours on end, and I have never had a soft seat burn on me. I really don't know if the lead substiture has saved my seats or not, but it only costs pennies per tank of gas to use it. It just takes two or three caps full. A pint bottle will last me a year or so. Yean, you can still buy it at most auto supply places, or order it from Redline.

Just a bit of math - 80 miles per hour times 3 hours equals 320 miles, divided by 15 miles per gallon (an estimate)equals 16 gallons of gas used. You got a bigger tank from a 69 in the car?
