Can you...
Shooting from the cuff here, but I know there are conversion kits to turn non-roller blocks into roller blocks available from Ford Racing.
Don't see why it wouldn't work.

YES:
I got a comp cams "retrofit kit" to put a roller in my 1970 351, They make a kit for 289/302 as well.
This kit contains a "reduced base circle cam" and a "spider and dog bones". I had to drill and tap two holes in the valley to put it in. No big deal, just had to limit the hole depth to .40" in order to not hit the cam bearing....
When I ordered the kit I expected a kit with the "linked lifters" but that is not what I got. I am using it anyway.
A setup with linked lifters should be readily available.
