Default How wide??

Hey I'm about to order my new 9" housing. What is the stock width and how narrow should I go? I wanna be able to fit some fatty tires up under there. Also, how much should I expect to pay for new leaf springs?

We ordered ours direct from Currie, we just ordered it for the year and model Mustang, I never did measure.

In retrospect however, I wish I had ordered it 2" narrower, (1" on each side), to better fit the tires and wheels we are running.

But in retrospect with regard to my above statement, I don't really think that it would be possible to go an inch narrower due to the location of the leaf springs with regard to their closeness to the brake calipers and all.

I will repost here in the next few min with my measurements.

David, the stock length of the axle on a 69-70 is 59.25 inches from flange to flange.

Call Flex-A-Form in Anderson, SC. They have fiberglass leaf springs in any rate you want. About $450.00 and you save about 30#'s of unsprung weight per side!!

Is it the same width on a 67? And I definitely need to figure out how to get a narrower rear end under there...

IIRC, the 65/66 axle was a bit narrower than the 67/68. FWIW, I'm looking at my Currie receipt dated 1994 for my '65 and it lists the overall width as being 57-1/4". I thought that stock is was 56" but would have to verify that.

According to Ultrastang's website, the 65/66 is 2" narrower than the 67/70.

I have a 68 and purchased a granada rear which i think is about the same width as a 65-66. I am running 18" wheels with 4.5" bs without any problems. I wish I had the rear before I ordered the wheels and I would have gone for 1" wider and left the bs as is. If I did I could have been running 285 35's, maybe even larger, without a problem. Instead I am stuck with 255 40's (all the my 8" wheels can handle). I also have disc brakes in the rear with no clearance issues.
