Default Battery Replacement

Does anyone know if they make batteries that will fit a 1966 Mustang that has the lip on the sides so that they can be clamped down like the original set up or do you need to change the battery tray to a '67-'68? TIA

There is a bracket that goes under a 65-66 tray that allows you to use the 67 on, hook screws, top clamp and wing nuts if you can't find a 'eared' type battery.

Jim, would really solve my problem. Do you have the supplier or part's or any information? I would greatly appreciate it.

CJ Pony carries the original 24F Autolite batteries with the lip on the bottom.

National Parts Depot has the bracket p/n 10769-2A $9.95; a hold down kit p/n 10756-1K $2.95 and the clamp p/n 10718-2A $4.95. Repro Autolite batteries are over $130. You may check out your local auto store to see if they have an 'eared' type 24F battery. I've seen them but opted for a more positive tie down.

Another solution is to mount a 69 style battery tray and turn it sideways. It's a cheap fix and works well.

My Interstate Mega-Tron Plus battery fits the tray just fine, and it also has a small lip around the bottom where I am able to attach the original hold down so that the battery is secure. There are about 500 different ways to skin a cat, and probably more ways to keep a battery in its' place to include bunji straps.
