Default spacers or adapters?

I have a 67 mustang coupe with the 4x4.5 bolt pattern. It has been extremly difficult finding stylish chrome rims that will fit the car. So i'm concidering buying spacers or adapters. I could purchase some adapters to convert it to 5x4.5 bolt pattern for $200, it will also ad 2' to the offset. Does any one have any advice on what is the best course of action for getting some nice rims on my mustang. I'd like to go with a 17' or 18' rims. is the adapter worth the price, should I go with cheaper priced spacers and longer bolts? What are the pros and cons of each choice? Will I encounter any problems in the future?

Someone please help. I'm dying to cruise my rebuilt head-turning mustang with some chrome rims!!

I was having the same problem and don't like the idea of using a spacer or adapter. I would assume that a spacer would be fine for smaller adjustments but you would want to use an adaper for larger. As I said I didn't like either option so I went to Americas Best Tire (Discounttire.com) and ordered a custom set of wheels from Boyd Coddington. I have 17's front and 18's rear. They look great and fit well. I purchased BFG KDW's and the whole setup was only $1850 including lugs and caps. Only problem was a delay in the wheels. It took about 2 months but that is when they were selling out to American Racing.

There are a couple options for 4 lug rims. You can get rims off of the 80's fox body mustang... There are plenty of them available. www.classicinlines.com sells some 4 lug rims. Personnally I dont like their design but they might suit you. American Racing also sells some 4 lug rims called the Outlaw II or Outlaw. They look good on a mustang and they are really inexpensive. You can find them as cheap as $75 a rim. As for the spacers. I dont know personally but many people would not recommend them. Some people claim they are unsafe. Look at the 4 lug rims available and see what you think

thanks for the great advice. I won't be going with the spacers since they pose a safety hazard. I don't really like the 4 bolt rims. So I think I'll go with the adapters

i like the fox mustang rims on the 6 popper for a nice upgrade without the need to convert to v8 specs the set i have on my fox are a set of cobra "r" in 17 i got for 500$ used with good tires cant really beat that the fr500 would look really sweet on a vintage car
