Default T-5---Strong Enough?

I am ready to start my tranny swap. I just want to make sure about everything. I have a 302- 10:1 compression, cam- 292 duration/ 512 lift,650 edelbrock carb, Performer RPM intake, Performer RPM heads, long tube headers, and 2.5 x-pipe exhaust. Correct me if im wrong, the early T-5s are rated at 330 ft/lbs. Am I good to go?

watch out.. i looked at this when i was getting my stuff together for my car. there are alot of varations and the "numbers" on the trans should mate with the rating.

i had a '94 F150 with T-5 behind a straight 6---i know the torque rating for those was much less than those coming from a V8....

i'm sure the dealers and tell you the numbers to watch out for.

nothing worse than putting something together and breaking it the next day!

great lookin car!!!

no early non world class tranny were i think 240ft lbs the later 87-93 were right around 300ft lbs to go along with the 5.0 300ft lbs rating but it all depends on your driving style if u beat on it it will last if u abuse it gonna break

Its about the abuse/milage, more milage will cause it to go quicker(duh) and same w/ abuse, driven correctly, it can withstand more than the 300ft lbs it is rated for -Jon

My world class T5 held up just fine behind a 351W pushing 400 hp. The only problem I ever had with a T5 was breaking something in the shift mechanism on the stock tranny from the '85 GT. Put an aftermarket shifter on it that has positive stops and you should be good to go.

There is a guy in my mustang club that is putting out 435 at the wheel with no problems. He says that he is careful not to dump the clutch though. I feel that he is on borrowed time. His car is an 88 and the torque rating (260 I think) was lower that year than 91-93 models (300).
