Default Parts....

Parts I have for the 9" swap:
Auburn posi
370 gears
new leaf springs
adjustable racing shocks
traction bars
a bearing kit the guy threw in with the posi

What else do I need? Obviously a housing and axles, I plan on ordering them soon but I can't decide on a place to get them. Any ideas?

axle seals, center gasket, and backing plate gaskets. you might as well rebuild the brakes since your in there.

Um, do you have a carrier? Get a nodular iron one for the extra strength. I'm assuming you got the 31 spline posi, correct? As for the housing and gears, Currie Enterprises is only an hour or so north of you which would save you shipping costs. If you want, you could bring your parts to them and have them finish up your axle.

speaking of currie, I just got the new hot roddin mag, and they did an article on a currie 9", drum to drum, my jaw hit the floor when they mentioned the $2800 price tag. I just did my 8", new trac-loc 3:25 gears, complete for $2000 less. I know, I now, it's like comparing a keg of beer to a can of beer.

Still need a carrier too. It is a 31 spline posi. I want to build it myself not just to save money but just to learn how. The guy in the auto shop here at school has experience and he's going to help me. Oh, and I just did a complete brake rebuild (everything) about 2000 miles ago.

I'm assuming a $2800 was for a bolt-in axle. While you apparently did your 8" yourself for $800, they need to pay their workers, overhead and make a profit.

The parts alone for a bolt-in 9" will be more than $800.
