The main advantage is the lack of maintenance needed with the pertronix it may improve spark plug life and fuel economy but nothing magical, depends on how well maintained and set your points are.

For me it was: easier starting (i.e. almost instant) and smoother acceleration (could by psychological, though).

Easy i did my v8 and the instruction are good, just get the 6 cylinder kit and new coil you may need to remove the ballast resistor wire. The faq has it all covered.

The main improvement is that you won't have to maintain the timing and the points. This could result in longer spark plug life and better power, but only compared to acr that is not properly timed or has worn points. So, if you enjoy setting the timing every 1,000 miles or two months and performing routine maintenance including replacing points, the Pertronix kit is even a disadvantage because it takes the joy of this maintenance away from you.
