Bastard 64 or Bastard 65?
I just picked up a project 65 Coupe. Just for the hell of it, I checked the numbers. Now I am confused! According to what I read, anything before 8/17/64 is a 64 1/2. Well, my car was built on 8/13/64. It has parts from a 64 and a 65. The thing that has me really scratching my head, it's a c-code 289! I think I've gotten some bad info, or mis-read it. Can anyone clear this up for me? Vin#5F07C260069, Tag: 65A,K,D6,13H,41,6,1
Does it have a generator or alternator? Do the front outer edges of the hood have a completely rolled lip or a 90* bend straight down? Does your radiator support have fins by the battery?

Your car is a 1965 model built in Dearborn on the date you figured. Ford started building 'real' 65 models on the 1st of August and used up leftover '64' body parts. The hood and headlight buckets combination, carpet and radios were some of the leftovers. What's unusual is the last diget in the door data tag, the '1', which is for a 3.00:1 rear axle, not normally used on a 'C' code engine.

Thanks for all the help! I had a feeling the cut off datewas wrong,I read that they did not build a C-code in 64, but according to the cut off date of 8/17/64, I might have the only c-code 64 known toman!I guess its a Bastard 65 with left over 64 parts. [sm=smiley20.gif]
My 65' was made June 26, 1965 and it had a few 66' parts on it when I bought it in 1987. I have a feeling they were original to the car but there were 22 years there that I don't know what she was doin'. Some things you will just never know about a 40 year old car.
