some newbie questions
Sorry everyone, I have been looking through the FAQ but there is an absolute ton of (great) information. I was wondering though if someone could possibly help me with some questions. Where can I find whatoptions were available for 65-68 mustangs? Also, are there any particular spots that tend to rust on mustangs? I'll probably have more, but any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
The options for early mustang were myriad indeed. Everything from 6 or 8cylinders in various forms, cruise and tilt-away steering column, AC, remote trunk opener, exterior and interior trim packages, consoles, rally-pacs/tach dashes. This is only a partial list of what was available. Most Ford options were available on the Mustang in one form or another.
Areas to keep an eye out for rust are from just behind the headlight to the tail-panel. One of the most notorious areas is the cowl area. Also the floor pans, rear quarters.

There is a booklet created by California Mustang and sold by most mail order stores that lists the options and their prices. It is year specific and costs about $6.
Depending on where the car was driven, there are many places where rust 'lives'. On the East Coast, the midwest (rust belt) and anywhere it snows and salt is or has been used, the entire undercarriage has some rust. In general, the doors, the rear quarters wells, the cowl, the floor pan under the carpets, the rear window on a fastback, and the list goes on.

Thanks for all your info. I was just curious if there was much difference in options for those years as they are the ones I'm looking at. Also, how much are I6 fastback mustangs going for with little to no rust and in good driver condition as compared to just a regular coupe? If fastback windowshave significant rusting in a high percentage of the cars (do they from your experiences?), I may just go with a coupe.I know my '69 Pontiac had trouble with rust around the rear window even though it wasn't exactly a fastback like these. Thanks again!
Any I-6 early Mustang (64-73) will not be worth as much as a V-8 car. Convertibles are worth the most clostly followed by Fastbacks. Coupes are the least expensive. More options appeared in 67 and 68 than in 64 to 66. Go to www2.nadaguides.com click on muscle cars, then Ford, then the year and then the model. Fill in the options and see what the value is in the three ranges, poor - average - and top.

Thanks again guys, I'm just looking for a nice car to drive, maybe even quite a bit, but don't need to worry about it sucking down gas. I guess I've gotten a bit more reasonable in my old age, that and I don't have a lot of extra cash, that's also why I'm looking at the I6. My 69 pontiac 350 used to burn a quarter tank on my one hour total commute to work.
