New carb
I havea holley 600 vac secs electric choke. 66 with 302,longtubes, planning upgrades down the road. But i think my carb is messed up and ive already rebuilt so i just want to get a new one. Directly replace this one or what other options.....I kno there is a similar post but this isa lil more direct.thanks
Its lowered about 2.5 inches and i have to crawl over speed bumps and over them sideways.little road imperfections are no big deal cuz the supension is so stiff...Are the barry grants worth the extra money?i mean really whats the differences
I havent purchased or installed mine yet, but I will be going with a BG Road Demon 525 on a 302 with Tri Ys. Everyone I have spoken to, including local mustang clubs, say that they always havinig issues tuning edelbrock and holley to the mustangs. They swear by the Road Demon and the ease of tunability. I did the research on the cost and you can get it with the Ford linkage for $376. You could also get a Road Demon Jr 525 for about $50-$70 less.
I think Edelbrock carbs suck and I've heard the same from other car guys. I have had no tuning problems with my Holley. I would either go with Holley or Demon carbs.
I would also go with the Tri-Y's ( Ceramic coated) and you can't go wrong.

I could never get my Edelbrock to tune right. BG's are amped up Holley's, so if you can tune a Demon you can tune a Holley and vice versa. I have a Holley 570cfm Street Avenger, works nice.
Matt, thanks for the feedback on the long-tube headers. I am going with the BG Road Demon and they have "reman" carbs for $317 at Jegs.
According to the gear heads I work with, Barry Grant was a top engineer at Holley during the day and left to do his own company years ago - they like the BG better than Holley. The drag racing guys I work with are squarely Holley guys and I always had issues getting the slight lag out of the Edelbrock that I had on a 350 Chevy.

Its funny because i read on the edelbrock page theyre carbs should be "bolt on performance" with minor to no tuning required! I guess not! -Jon

First, the most passionate responses on any product seem to be from those who had poor experiences with said item. I'm willing to bet that if polled, you'll find that the number of people happy with their Edelbrocks is probably similar to that of the Holley. I think the market place bears this out seeing as both product lines seem to be comparably priced.
FWIW, my Holley Street Avenger 670 is factory calibrated and wet flowed for a bolt-n-go solution. The fact of the matter is that it had to be tuned and tweaked to work as well as it could for my particular application. There is no such thing as a universal bolt-on carburetor that is going to be optimized out of the box for everybody. To say one is easier or harder to tune is another discussion altogether ...
