Default AwKwaRd problem when starting

When trying to start my car it sounded really slow to turn over, and before it did the car starting shaking a little bit. It happens more often when the car is warm, but also happens when it is cold. Sometimes it wont even start, and the shaking is more dramatic. I have a 64.5 289 4V. All original, points dizzy cast iron pullies etc. I have no idea what could be causing this, and I am no where near a mechanic. Please help me out, any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If you got a 'veteran' Mustang, with an original starter, I'd replace the starter - for a start.

Would that cause it to sound "slow" when trying to turn over? Besides the starter, what other things could cause the problem? What are the inexpensive things that could cause this problem? Just to try and get them out of the way first.

Battery.. How old is it? I could be starting to die and you may need to tune your carb a little..

I'd check the battery with a volt meter as a first step. If you don't have a volt meter, you can go to just about any auto parts store and they will check your charging system (including battery) for free. If the battery and charging system are OK, the starter could very well be the culprit.

Good luck!

Would the starter or battery cause the car to shake when trying to start again?

Check to see if the starter is firmly attached. Then check the battery cables to see it they are loose. There are three, one to the solenoid from the battery, a second from the solenoid to the starter and the third from the battery to the engine as a ground.

Battery lead from the solinoid to the starter. I had the same problem with mine and it was this wire. The connection on the starter had melted slightly so i changed the cable and now it flys over.
