Default 67 stereo

I did not want to hijack the 64 1/2 stereo install thread.
I want to install a stereo in my 67 vert. I plan on keeping the orginal AM radio in the dash. I was thinking about the secrete audio setup. Has anyone ever use one? As far as speakers what should I put in the front? Should I try to get speakers into the original dash location? Do I need to add speakers in the back? I would like to add a sub in the trunk. How do I get the sub in the trunk without interfering with the top and still be able to hear it.
As far as sound deadening where do you put the dynomat to stop the rear tire noise that comes up from the top well when the top is up?

My music choice is 60's 70's and 80's I do not what so much base that the car is thumping down the road I just want a full rich stereo sound in the car.

I do not have a center console to mount speakers to.

I helped a friend finsh restoring his 67 Fastback and his goal was to use an AM/FMstereo radio instead of the original AM. We put the stereo speakers in the dash choosing not to put them in the doors or to use the kick panel type. For the rear, which has a similar type of situation as your convertible, it's not easy, we got a single housing with two speakers, LH and RH, that fit behind the seat with the seat up or down. In your car this concept makes the rear seat unusuable, but the speakers come out. Putting them in the trunk has a problem in that the speakers are muffled with the top down.

A new modern head unit in the glovebox is becoming pretty popular..In my 67'vert Ive got a Alpinehead unit in my glovebox withinfiniti component speakers infront kick panels that sound really good.I had a sub in the trunk for awhile..and yes it gets muffled with the top down.Ive only read bad reviews on the secret audio setups like from custom auto sound.

Do you find it hard to adjust the radio with it in the glovebox? Can you install component speakers in the dash? How big are component speakers?

Most people I know don't have very pleasent reviews of the Secret Audio setup. Putting a new head unit in theglove compartmentis a good idea or you can get one of the bezels to mount it below the dash. My dash was already cutup by the PO so I just have an aftermarket head where the original AM was. For speakers I'm planning on putting 2 5x7's in the package tray, a 6.5" in both kick panels, and I'm not sure what size underneath the dash. I'm thinking about getting a sub but not too sure about that and if I do go that direction then I'll get an amp as well.

What is your budget?

You will ahve a very hard time installing comps in the dash. I would recommend making or purchasing kick panels to house the front comps.

With that musical preference I would run a set of 6.5 or 5.25 comps in the front and some 6.5, 6x9, or 8 inch subs in an enclouse that would mount in the package tray. It isnever a good idea ot run rear speakers full range, but in general bass frequencies below 80 hz are considered omnidirectional.

I put one of those secret radios in my 67 vert with Autosound speakers in the kick panels and a new duo top dash speaker. On a scale from 1 to 10 figuring in costand sound quality I'd give it about a 5. With the engine running and exhaust noise ,I wouldn't know how to improve the sound........espescially in a convertible with top down.

This is probably just a dumb newbe question, but what is the package tray?
Can you buy kick pannels that the CDT HD speakers will fit in?

Will the Custom Autosound USA-66 fit in a 67? Are the radios diffrens sizes between the 66 (67-68) 69 cars?

It's the shelf behind the rear seat on hardtops. In convertibles, it's where the top goes. There is a similar shelf on 67 - 73 Fastbacks without the folding seat.
