Some final questions.
Hey guys, im about to go home from college for the summer and im getting ready to make a large purchase, hopefully the last one of this type, for my 1968 coupe. Im talking wheels, tires, shocks, coil springs, alternator. Im just going to throw this all out there, and you guys tell me where you see problems in your eyes.I also knowmost of this stuff is in the FAQ's, i just wanted to make sure i wasnt over looking something, costly mistakes. Wanting to put 17X8 Torq Thrust Two's. 4.5X5 bolt pattern with 4.75" of Backspacing. Im lowering the car in the front with 620 1" drop coils, so im wanting to see if i should put 235/45 or 245/45 up front, because i want to run 245/45's in the back. While i was this far with tires off and springs out, i figured it would be agood time to replace the old shocks. Are KYB's pretty good products? Anybody know a good place to get these? Also wanting to upgrade the alternator because of a high powered stereo system. Shouldi go all out and get a 100 amp 1-wire alt.? Or just get an upgraded 65 amp. alternator? ANy input is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
almost forgot. Having problems with the drivers side window regulator rolling up all the way.ITkeepsnot making proper contact with thewindow crank. When i get to looking at the post w/ splines coming out the panel from the regulator, it seems to have a different pattern then on thepassenger side. I can put either handle on the passenger side and it work fine, so im thinking the driver side regulator is messed up with that **** doing what its doing. How hard is it to pull the door panel off and replace the regulator? Or am i going in the right direction here.
Caleb,
You will get better quality answers to you your questions if you downsize and only ask a few at a time. Yes, the FAQ has a lot of answers in it, so research there first, then come here for clarification and some personal help.

Ok Caleb, you can get the KYB shocks at juat about any Mustang store. I got mine from Texasmustang.com. As far as the alternator, you really need to get the 100 amp one wire model if you plan to run a high powered stereo system in your classic. We old classic guys get by just fine with our 45 amp alternators. However, you have to figure to replace all your wiring in the engine and under the dash if you are going to run a high powered amp system for sound.
Seems most people like the KYB Gas-A-Just. I got mine in a package deal but I think individually they were 32 bucks from www.laurelmountainmustang.com
As far as the tires and wheels go I wouldn't put 245/45's up front. I have 245/40's on all 4 tires with standard suspension in front and bigger springs in back. They barely fit, I do not think 45's would work on my car let alone one with 1" lower springs in the front. I also went with TTII's in the 17x8 size but I went with 4.5" backspace to give more fender clearance. Whatever you do, plan on rolling the fenders if you are going to try to go wide. All it takes is that one wacky bump in the road and you are running on three tires instead of four.
I thought 4.75" backspacing would give you more fender clearance than 4.50" backspacing. The 4.75" would push the wheel towards the middle of the car and give more fender clearance.
