Glen, don't forget the 64 260 valve covers, they were 'Medium Blue'. And as to matching numbers, I had a 66 with a T-10 transmission and it had the VIN number on it, well it was a San Jose Fastback build with a Metuchin hardtop VIN on the T-10.

An anomous previous owner blew the original transmission and replaced it. That's the story I got from the guy I bought it from. Don't know the realwho, where or when, but it's academic because the car now speaks Austrailian. But it did have the VIN on it. It will be documented in the next issue (if Smart and Haskell get around to it) of the Mustang Production Guide.

I've been looking at the picture of the engine and then comparing it to a book i have. It looks like the air cleaner and valve covers are off a 68 302. What do you all think. they, the valve covers, have the large powered by ford script on them
Way back in this thread I said it looked like a 68 - the air cleaner and preheat tube, distributor and - yup, the valve covers. It could be a 289 because Ford 'used' up all the leftover 289 blocks as 68 2V ('C' code) engines.
