Default How should I do this...

I'm really ready to get this thing finished up, but I keep hesitating on these quarter windows.

Of course the frames are pitted and I definitely would like them to look sharp. However, can’t find anybody in town to rechrome them for a reasonable price and a descent quality (they say the quality cannot be guaranteed, and will probably not be great).

I think I’ve seen posts of people who have removed/replaced these quarter windows while the quarter panel was still installed??? I'm sure it would probably be wise to get them installed while the quarter panel is removed, but quite frankly I’m running out of patience and a little bit of time.

So, I guess all I'm asking is it possible to install the quarter windows with the quarter panel in place? I really would like to finish assembling the new rear of the car, so I can focus on my sweet suspension and front disk brakeset-up that I just got from opentracker.

What say you'll?

I'd install them after the quarter panels are in. Molten metal can ruin a good window by melting pits into it. Maybe not during the welding phase but definately during the grinding phase.

That's a good point. It sure is good to ping some questions off knowledgeable folks who always seem to have an answer you might never had considered. Thanks!

No problem, glad I could help.I never thought about the glassuntil I noticed I was bouncing sparks offthat car'swindshield (bad anyway). I looked closely at it and found a few particles of metal stuck to the glass. I managed to hitthe driver's side window with a couple of bits as well. From now on my glass is either covered or out of the way.

I Agree. I have a speck of metal embeded in my windshield for welding a bracket for a hood pin into my engine bay.

All sounds good. So, is there a particular way to make it easier when reinstalling the quarter window? i.e. like should I install the metal piece that the tracks are on first or now while its easy then just feed the window down the tracks when the time comes?????

Get a 69 Ford Service Manual. It should have the body alignment measurements in it. My 65 and 66 manuals do.
