Default Ignition switch

My key has been stuck in the ignition since I bought it. I purchased a new assembly a few days ago. Is it as easy as I've heard to change it out? A few people have told me to take the old one out, you just need to use a paper clip in the hole by the key and it will pop right out.

I'm just checking so I don't mess this up.

Thanks for your help.

^^^^ I have that same problem with my key. It gets stuck in the ignition. Eventually it seems to come out. What I have found is that if i move my aftermarket tach around (hose clamped to the column) that the key will come out.

Sounds like a chronic problem. My key got stuck in my 65 ignition switch while it was in run. I pulled the battery cable to stop the car. I used a pair of pliers and twisted, pushed and pulled (not hard)until it came out and then used a paper clip to remove the tumblers - then replaced the switch. You need a special tool to remove the switch on 67 and 68 cars and a different one for 69.

You turn your switch to the acc. to the far left, then insert the paper clip in the hole and turn the key to the right.. That's how it works on a 65-66. Not sure about the 67.

Glen, The tumblers are the same, use a paper clip; a paper clip - maybe the most unusual tool in the tool box, along with the golf tee, and the hemostats.

I have the opposite problem, my keys fly out of the ignition when I hit the gas too hard.

No tumblers, the sure sign of a 'hot' car.

Get you another set cut. You can get the Mustang logo blanks at most Mustang supply places. My original set is almost slick from use.

Thanks for everyone's help.

I'll try the Accessory position, paper clip method.
