power steering backet for headers

Default power steering backet for headers

I do not understand what this bracket is for, ordered TriY headers the CJ Pony said to order it so I did, but I do not understand were it goes, my power steering pump has alarge cup looking bracket that it justsits in. Help please, were does that bracket go?No instructions came with it.1965 /289/Auto.

The bracket is used to lower the mounting location of the power steering control valve or ram (cant remember which), under the car.
If you look on the Drivers side you can see where the ram or control valve attaches to the frame. The bracket is used to lower that control point.

If you do not have power steering, I do not know whether you will need this.

It's the ram or power cylinder. The tri-y headers hang lower than the stock manifold so the power cylinder needs to be lowered. It will be pretty obvious once you get under the car. The ps reaction bracket mounts to the frame with three bolts, two into the bottom of the frame and one into the side. You remove the stock bracket, install the lowering bracket then reinstall the stock bracket.

The control valve is on the end of the center or drag link and is attached to the pitman arm.

If you do not have a schematic of the steering layout, you can download the NPD catalog and look at the diagram on page 70. (npdlink.com)
